Dirty pics to blame for #EDM hashtag block on Instagram

You won’t be able to search #EDM on Instagram anymore. The company has blocked the hashtag that’s a common abbreviation for electronic dance music.

Instagram officials told Time they made the decision to block #EDM because many users used the hashtag to post nude photos. You can only imagine how many people this must have been. Instagram went on to say:

“We block (i.e. make unsearchable) certain hashtags when they are consistently being used to share images and videos that violate our Community Guidelines. In this case, #EDM was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity. We’re working on a way to more quickly restore certain hashtags that have previously been blocked. We’re also working on ways to better communicate our policies around hashtags.”

A majority of those pics were of the male anatomy. So, to be clear, the #EDM ban has nothing to do with EDM at all – but keeping dirty pics off your IG feed.
