“Giant Bubble Concerts” May Soon Be A Thing

Well if this year couldn’t get more crazier — it just did. COVID-19 has prompted several event promoters to get creative until large-scale IRL events can return. With the growing popularity of “Drive-in” and “Pod-style” events, the live music industry is doing everything they can to stay afloat while providing a safe experience for music fans of all types.

This latest concept of “giant bubble concerts” may soon be a thing as band The Flaming Lips are actively planning “COVID-Safe” concerts for fans in giant bubbles.

Wayne Coyne, Lead Singer of The Flaming Lips recently shared a picture to his Instagram about the new “giant bubble” concept. He spoke to the Brooklyn Vegan about the plans and said “I mean, it seems absurd, but we at first were just doing it as not a joke, but just as a kind of funny thing, and now it’s becoming kind of serious and real.”

In terms of the bubble capacity, the band thinks there would be two-three in a bubble. The show dates have not yet been announced. “I think it’s more fun for people, because then they’re kind of in there and they can drink and they can talk and they’re not just kind of stuck in there, having their own experience,” Coyne went on to say.
