California Will Allow Live Entertainment Under The Purple Tier

Yesterday (Monday, February 2) California governor Gavin Newsom lifted stay-at-home orders statewide and gave the go-ahead to some businesses to allow for live entertainment. It is the first time that performers have been grouped within California’s purple tier. According to ABC10, California’s purple tier allows for outdoor gatherings at gyms, movie theaters, restaurants, and museums (amongst others), at a limited capacity with specific modifications. Now, performers have been added to California’s purple tier, which would mean performers can perform in outdoor locations that serve food but must keep a distance of 12 feet between the audience and other performers on stage.

After governor Newsom lifted California’s stay-at-home orders and allowed performers into California’s purple tier, San Diego County Chairman Nathan Fletcher had to make sure he was hearing the news correctly. He clarified that live entertainment will be allowed at restaurants or other places that serve food outdoors and that performers must keep a 12-foot distance. This is extremely exciting news for California’s performers and restaurants, who have been itching for life to return to its pre-pandemic state.
