Ibiza’s vaccination passport will take effect in June.
After months of prolonged discussion about vaccination passports, Ibiza has announced that vaccine passports for tourists to enter Spain (including Ibiza and the Balearic Islands), will be ready to go by June. Reyes Maroto (Spain’s tourism minister), confirmed to local reporters that the vaccination passport will, “replace current restrictions when it comes to traveling.” According to DJ Mag, a press conference was held last week between the President of the Balearic Government and local tourism officials. The press conference discussed the vaccination passport and when it could be implemented into everyday life. The conference concluded that the vaccination passports will be implemented in Spain by June.
In order for Spain’s vaccination passports to take full effect, the local population needs to become vaccinated first. According to Maroto, vaccinating a large majority of the local population would ensure “maximum certainty in order to have a season without taking risks.” Reyes Maroto’s comments and the implementation of vaccine passports come just weeks after Spain’s decision to open restaurants outdoor spaces to the public.
It seems as though Spain is on the right track to welcoming back tourists this summer. Although it is still too early to tell, make sure you are keeping an eye on flights just in case.
