Barcelona Tests 5,000 Concert Goers In New COVID-19 Study

Barcelona residents attended a 5,000 person COVID-19 study this past weekend.

On Saturday, March 27, locals from Barcelona were able to participate in a 5,000 person COVID-19 study which took place at the Palau Sant Jordi sporting arena in Barcelona. The sporting arena is capable of holding a maximum of 17,000 people, however, this study only admitted 5,000. Concert goers were able to enjoy a night listening to Spanish pop-band, Love of Lesbian.

The study was approved as a pilot project between the Spanish government and other local venues. We have seen similar tests and pilot events that have taken place in Amsterdam and across Europe that have attempted to obtain results in hopes of bringing live events back quicker than expected. In order to attend the test event in Barcelona, ticketholders were required to take a COVID-19 test prior to entering the event on Saturday, March 27. Once approved, concert-goers were able to enter the venue without any social distancing measures enforced. Masks were required, but keeping a distance of 6 feet was not.

Just last week, Spain’s Minister of Tourism disclosed the countries plan for a vaccination passport. As more piloted events such as this one and others begin to unfold along with the development of a vaccination passport, the possibility of live events returning to Spain this summer seems more likely than ever before.
