South African DJ Black Coffee dropped ‘Subconsciously’ and created GongBox despite COVID-19.
For many, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a tremendous amount of hardships and financial misfortunes but for South African DJ Black Coffee, COVID-19 was a time of success. During lockdown, Black Coffee released his sixth album just a couple of weeks before his 45th birthday and launched a streaming platform. Black Coffee’s 6th album is the first album he has released in the past 5 years and is called ‘Subconsciously.’
‘Subconsciously’ features a fantastic lineup of international artists including David Guetta, Pharrell Williams, and Usher. The precisely curated list of features contributed to ‘Subconsciousy’ receiving 100 million streams even before the album released. Every artist who is featured on the album brings a “certain side of music” to Black Coffee and has allowed him to produce his most successful album yet.
In addition to launching his 6th album, Black Coffee launched a streaming app called GongBox which aims to help up and coming African artists broadcast their music. The app gives access to the continent’s music library which is sorted by any genre. The musicians who post their music to the platform will own 100% of their creations.
