Recently, the government of The Netherlands announced nightclubs will be allowed to fully reopen beginning September 25. The change in regulations comes after an announcement that all social distancing would end on September 25 as well.
Nightclubs have been closed for nearly the entire COVID-19 pandemic, beginning in March of 2020. There was a brief period when they opened in the Summer of 2021, but they were quickly shuttered again after a sharp rise in cases. Under these new regulations, clubs will remain closed between the hours of 12AM and 6AM, and attendees must show proof they are fully vaccinated, recovered from COVID-19, or have received a negative test.
Prior to the official ease of restrictions on nightclubs, yearly events like Awakenings‘ party at Amsterdam Dance Event confirmed they would return in 2021 with modifications to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Event organizer and avid partiers in the Netherlands have been very vocal in recent months about easing strictures surrounding music events. A nationwide movement called Unmute Us saw over 150,000 protestors march around the country in cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht to demand large-scale festivals be reinstated. The movement consisted of over 400 different events including A State Of Trance and DGTL.
