An 850-Year-Old Irish Castle Became The Site Of An Illegal Rave

On December 26, 2021, authorities shut down an illegal rave happening at Skryne Castle in County Meath, Ireland. Hundreds of people were able to attend the event despite COVID-19 restrictions due to the castle being available to rent on Airbnb. The castle is no longer listed on Airbnb.

Derek Iceton, the owner of the castle, began receiving calls from residents of the area at around 9PM regarding an influx of taxis arriving on the premises. Iceton then went to the property himself to find a “famous” DJ performing as people filled all three floors of the castle.

“The first thing I saw when I went in was a number of huge, two-three metre canisters of nitrous oxide and also a massive bar that had everything from tequila to Cointreau for sale,” Iceton told Sunday World.

Iceton quickly killed the power to the estate in order to disperse the crowd. He also said Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (DOCB) and The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) were in place to raid the property.

Check out the video below to see clips of what seems to be the aftermath of the event.
