Idris Elba has made his mark on the screen starring in celebrated television programs and movies like Luther, The Suicide Squad, and the Thor section of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the British actor has another love: dance music.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Elba confirmed he will soon put more time and energy towards his music career rather than acting:
“Some may think, Well, it will be the death of your acting if your music’s shit,” Elba said. “I’ve dealt with the internal struggle of that over the years. So now I’m at peace and I’ve chosen: This is what I’m doing, and I’m going to do it. Some will love it and some will hate it.”
“The thing about making music is it’s a very consuming process,” he added. “It’s very difficult to shoot a movie and then go off into the studio or make a song. It’s like trying to build a soufflé while making a brick wall.”
In 2019, Elba played the Yuma tent at Coachella alongside DJs like Tale of Us and Stephan Bodzin. He’s also released music on stalwart house and techno labels including Defected, which put out “No More Looking Back,” a collaboration between Elba, Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson‘s band Inner City, and vocal artist Steffanie Christi’an.
This will be an exciting new chapter in the life and career of Idris Elba, and the ravers of the world will get to be a part of it.
