Indio Police are still investigating a fight that broke out the second weekend of this year’s Coachella Valley Music + Arts Festival between 2 security personnel.
In a weird twist, the altercation actually occurred between 2 security employees working the check-in area of the Empire Polo Fields around 10:30 AM on Sunday. According to the LA Times, the two men began an argument that quickly turned violent. As actual police officers were called in to break up the brawl, it was discovered that the 2 guards had been stabbed and another 3rd individual was roughed up as well. Thankfully, none of the injuries sustained were life threatening despite one of the men who’d actually been stabbed in the stomach.
It’s an unfortunate reminder that we all need to be more aware of our surroundings at any music event or festival, as staff members are not always the most reliable. Police arrested 128 attendees the first weekend of the 2016 Coachella Valley Music + Arts Festival, most being related to drug and alcohol violations. Several witnesses have been questioned regarding the stabbing incident, but a suspect has yet to be identified. Anyone with information is encouraged to call investigators at (760) 391-4057 or (760) 341-7867.
