American Airlines is rolling out their new awards system pricing mechanism very soon, switching from fixed-price awards to only “web special” variable pricing.
Back in December, American Airlines shared that sometime in 2023, MileSAAver and AAnytime award charts would be eliminated to be replaced by all dynamic priced awards. Currently, there are two options: AAnytime awards which are fixed price or Web Special awards which are dynamically priced.
Now according to a leaked internal document, these changes may come into effect soon.
The details behind the new award chart are vague, but it does mean that when the airline raises reward prices, they don’t need to inform members with an updated chart.
But American Airlines has also said in statements that they do not plan on implementing this change through their partner airlines like Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways.
Many of these changes have been slowly implemented as the fixed price awards are few and far between, but if a traveler does see one available, they should snag it before they are gone completely.
