Artificial intelligence has become a source of dispute in the music industry with some lauding it as the future of creativity and others worrying it will put employees out of business and reduce innovation.
But to combat these fears, a new coalition has been launched by the Human Artistry Campaign urging limits and principles on the new technology.
The proposal was announced during a panel at South by Southwest (SXSW) and broke down seven core principles of AI backed by music and entertainment experts.
Over 40 industries support these guidelines, including athletes, writers, and entertainment industry professionals.
Principles include empowering human expression, transparency and trustworthiness, and ensuring copyright and compensation is fair and standardized.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr explained about the standards, “There is so much potential with AI. But it also presents risks to our creative community. It’s crucial that we get this right early on so we don’t risk losing the artistic magic that only humans can create.”
