Today, PayPal has announced a partnership with live event company Live Nation to make PayPal the preferred partner of Ticketmaster.
This allows fans buying concert or festival tickets the ability to pay with PayPal, PayPal Pay Later, and Venmo across the Ticketmaster platform.
The PayPal Pay Later method will allow fans to pay for tickets over the course of several weeks or months. Venmo will also give Ticketmaster purchasers the option to split their payments upon purchase via the Venmo app.
PayPal Braintree will also become Ticketmaster’s global payment processor, intending to speed up the checkout process and add simple add-ons like merch and parking passes upfront.
Mark Yovich, President of Ticketmaster, said about the partnership, “Our goal is to seamlessly connect artists and event organizers with fans wherever they are in the world, and PayPal helps us take that to the next level with a truly global-reaching payments solution. This partnership gives fans continuity and confidence that they have a secure, trusted, and accessible payment method wherever in the world they happen to be attending an event.”
The partnership is a strategy of a new marketing program to add exclusive experiences and offers to loyal and engaged fans. For example, Bonnaroo, Bottlerock, and Lollapalooza will offer ticket discounts and credits to fans who purchase using PayPal and Venmo.
In 2013, Live Nation purchased a 50% stake in Insomniac Events and formed a partnership to improve logistics. While Insomniac has all creative control, this PayPal and Live Nation partnership could give more flexibility and ease to purchasing tickets to Insomniac festivals.
