Fyre Festival’s head organizer, Billy McFarland, has confirmed on social media that a second Fyre Fest is officially coming.
He tweeted on April 9, “Fyre Festival II is finally happening. Tell me why you should be invited,” sending shockwaves through the festival community as they remembered the disaster of the first Fyre Festival.
The festival took place in 2017, claiming luxurious accommodations on a private island with performances promised by Blink 182 and Lil Yachty. Tickets were going for as much as $400,000 with celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski as influencers.
But when attendees arrived, they faced mediocre meals, numerous bands and artists dropped out, and attendees were even stranded on the island due to flight cancelations. The US Embassy had to step in to evacuate the festival-goers because the situation was so mismanaged.
McFarland allegedly presented fake documents to investors convincing them to commit over a million dollars to his company and Fyre Festival. Fyre festival was just one of his spurious business dealing that lead to wire fraud charges in 2017.
McFarland eventually plead guilty to wire fraud receiving a sentence of six years in prison. He served four in total before being released in March 2022.
And now the internet is absolutely roasting McFarland under the tweet, with DJ Sam Feldt saying, “I can DJ” and BLOND:ISH responding “Make sure you get paid before you play ;)”
But the Bahamas is quick to denounce any association with the new venture, with Bahamas Minister of Tourism stating they “will not endorse or approve any event in The Bahamas associated with [McFarland]” and that “he is considered to be a fugitive.”
🔥 Fyre Festival II is finally happening.
Tell me why you should be invited.
