Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia has been ranked, once again, as the world’s busiest airport in 2022.
The traffic increased about 23.8% from 2021, as reported by Airports Council International, to around 93.7 million passengers in 2022.
Atlanta ranked the busiest for 22 years in a row before being dethroned by China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport during the pandemic. But Atlanta reclaimed the title in 2021 once travel restrictions eased around the world.
Second, third, and fourth place also went to US airports with Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, and Chicago O’Hare taking the next spots with LAX down at sixth.
But international airports like London Heathrow, Dubai International, and Paris-Charles de Gaulle did make the list further down as international travel lagged in its recovery behind domestic travel.
So what does this mean for travelers? Anyone flying domestically at these airports should treat their travel like an international flight and arrive around three hours early.
