Oliver Heldens’ pounding techno alias HI-LO just dropped a new track inspired by legendary Belgian label Bonzai Records, aptly called “BONZAI.”
Over the years Bonzai Records has released distinctive synth-heavy classics like “The First Rebirth,” “Universal Nation,” and the original “Age Of Love.”
The name also references the dual meanings of the Japanese phrase “Bonzai” used to represent both “long life” and serves as a cheer of enthusiasm.
The track feels like racing down a road due to its pulsating energy, but it is accompanied by a cheeky, almost game-like melody that contrasts ominously with the pounding techno kick.
Speaking about “BONZAI,” HI-LO said, “I made this track during the pandemic in 2020… Back in 2020, it felt a bit too trancey for HI-LO, so I kind of focused on finishing other tracks instead, but this year felt like the perfect time to give this track a fresh makeover and take it to the next level. It’s become a 135BPM melodic peak time techno anthem that blends Techno and Trance very nicely in my opinion, and that also works very well at much higher BPMs.”
