Dance music doesn’t discriminate, just ask 46-year-old mother of one Caroline Kelf.
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, UK native Kelf decided to quit her desk job of five years—previously working as an executive personal assistant—to “do a bit of soul searching.”
While not necessarily the spitting image of a raver in 2023, it wasn’t long before Kelf tried her luck at DJing.
“I just absolutely loved it from the moment I pressed play,” she told the Manchester Evening News.
In the profile, Kelf said she needed to think about a time that she was happiest in life in order to find her purpose.
“For me, I was happiest when I used to go clubbing in the 90s and early 2000s – getting everyone back at afterparties, being in charge of the sound system and creating a vibe,” Kelf said.
Now Kelf has taken on a new role as DJ Flourish, gaining popularity by hosting online raves during the pandemic with an emphasis on “self-love.”
After things slowly returned to normal post-lockdown, Kelf took a shot at hosting an alcohol-free, in-person rave for the first time, and the events have been a hit ever since.
Kelf will host another rave this coming October with an expected attendance of 500 people and is also booked to play Womanifest Festival and Happy Place Festival.
“I feel satisfied now and I feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be,” Kelf told the Manchester Evening News. “I feel like I’m doing what I came here to do and even though life throws challenges at me, I’ve got this core joy that I can come back to over and over again.”
“I feel like an individual again. I feel like Caroline,” Kelf said.
We couldn’t be happier for Caroline in her new career. If only all of our mothers were this cool… but we love them just the same.
