Martin Garrix Apologizes to Avalan, Says Track Similarities Are “Pure Coincidence”

Everyone makes mistakes. Even superstar DJs.

Following Martin Garrix‘s flurry of call-outs via Instagram Stories last week, the world-famous producer has gone back online to make a correction and publicly apologize to producer and DJ Avalan.

Last week, Garrix claimed that Avalan and producer duo AlterBoyz stole inspiration for their song “World We Know” from a clip that Garrix posted on Instagram years ago. The clip shows Garrix playing a handful of chords and melodies on acoustic guitar.

After speaking out on recent news that an unreleased ID from himself and Third Party was stolen and published to Spotify without their permission, Garrix wrote of “World We Know:”

“Same thing happened with this idea, multiple people stole the chords + melodies which ends up with me never releasing it.”

In the next Instagram Stories slide, Garrix followed by posting a clip of the song—which was featured as the opening anthem for AMF in 2020—accompanied by the message: “sound familiar?”

Now, after meeting with Avalan in person, Garrix has made a correction that the similarities are “pure coincidence.”

Garrix wrote on Instagram Stories, “Meeting him today helped me understand how this happened. Go check out his music!”

It seems that Avalan and Garrix are getting on quite well, with a photo of them smiling together published alongside the apology.

There is no word on Garrix’s course of action in the case of the collaborative Third Party ID, but Garrix has said that the track being stolen makes him hesitant to play unreleased music during his live performances.
