Honey Dijon Shares Hearfelt Thank You Following Grammy Recognition

In a proud moment for dance music and the LGBTQ+ community, Honey Dijon has written a heartfelt statement expressing gratitude following her production role in Beyonce‘s Grammy-winning record, RENAISSANCE.

RENAISSANCE and its songs were nominated for nine different Grammy awards in February, winning four including Best Dance/Electronic Album.

DJ and producer Honey Dijon—real name Honey Redmond—shared an image of an official certificate from The Recording Academy on Instagram yesterday, in which the academy acknowledged her vital work on the project.

Accompanying the post, the Chicago house music legend expressed pride in receiving the recognition:

“I believe I am the first transwoman of color to be awarded a Grammy. I am also the first to have her own brand/fashion collection, headline festivals and curate lineups at some of the most respected clubs globally, collaborate with innovative brands, and remix some of the most iconic artists of our time.”

She continued, “I could not have done any of this without the love and support of my family, my wonderful friends, my fabulous queer community, and my absolutely beautiful fans. Thank you for all that you’ve given me and lifting me up! This award is for us!”

Redmond went on to thank her management team and a number of friends and influences who have helped her along a storied career, including fellow Defected Records stalwart Luke Solomon, for being her “fellow weirdo and musical partner in crime.”

She also acknowledged the “immensely talented musicians” who worked on RENAISSANCE, from producers to songwriters, and of course, Beyoncé and the rest of her team at Parkwood Entertainment.
