The new Maya Train station connecting Cancun to much of the Mexican Caribbean will officially be open by the end of this year.
On December 1, the Maya Train will be fully operational for tourists, locals, and travelers alike with 42 trains available to relieve Cancun’s traffic while safely moving people throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.
The 1,554-kilometer-long route will go through 34 stations, including Tulum and Playa Del Carmen, seven nearby airports, and 26 archeological zones. The train will connect five states throughout the region: Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
Six new hotels will also be built for the Maya Train right by ancient ruins along the route.
Tickets will soon be available through the train app and website with prices separated by traveler type such as tourists, locals, seniors, etc.
Protection of the natural landscape has been considered as well with more than 60% of the section five route being an elevated viaduct to avoid disturbing the rivers, caverns, and cenotes in the area.
