As Las Vegas’ new MSG Sphere venue prepares to open to the public at the end of the month, film director Darren Aronofsky has shared a closer look at its interior and its Exosphere, the largest LED screen on Earth.
Aronofsky, whose film Postcard From Earth will debut at the MSG Sphere on October 6, shared a short clip of what the film will look like on screen via Instagram.
“My iPhone can’t come close to capturing the definition of the screen,” he wrote. “At times you forget where you are and you’re transported to the other side of our home.”
The fully programmable LED screen covers 580,000 square feet and consists of 1.2 million LED pucks, each of which house 48 individual LED diodes that can display 256 million different colors.
The MSG Sphere will officially open on September 29 for the first show of U2’s residency U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At The Sphere. The show received over a million registrations for tickets during its on-sale period and will mark U2’s first live performance in four years
In an Apple Music Interview, U2’s Bono and The Edge made note that the Sphere was built with the arts and live performances in mind, as opposed to other arenas made for sports. The Sphere also has its own Sphere Immersive Sound and 4D technologies.
“There are no speakers. The entire building is a speaker,” Bono said. “So wherever you are you have perfect sound.”
The Edge continued, “There’s nothing else like it in the world and won’t be for many, many years.”
According to IQ Magazine, MSG has submitted a proposal to build a second Sphere in London, but the project has hit significant delays due to opposition from AEG Europe.
