Two worlds previously thought to be incompatible are colliding, as Skrillex is now set to play underground techno institution, Berghain.
Skrillex, who in-part helped define the mainstream EDM boom in the early 2010s, will play at the iconic Berlin club on Friday, October 27, during a nine-hour event celebrating German label PAN‘s 15th anniversary.
The PAN 15 event has also tapped performances from Tzusing, CRYSTALLMESS, Juliana Huxtable, Doss, and Objekt.
This will mark Skrillex’s first performance at Berghain, a club that is famously true to Berlin’s edgy dance music roots: no phones, strict bouncers, LGBT expression, and nothing but techno.
As one would guess, this is an unexpected booking for Berghain, but as Skrillex’s recent music has leaned more underground and “ravey” in production style—exemplified by releases like Quest For Fire and “Fine Day Anthem”—it might just be perfect timing.
The club’s exclusive nature has made it one of the most sought-after dance music destinations on the planet, and coupled with a performance from Skrillex, one would expect fans to turn out in force.
