Daft Punk Share ‘Memory Tapes’ Episode Showing The First Time Pharrell Heard “Get Lucky”

Daft Punk have now shared the sixth installment of their Memory Tapes YouTube series, featuring the legendary musician and collaborator, Pharell Williams.

This new episode features an interview with Williams as well as footage of the first time he heard his contributions to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories on the tracks Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself To Dance.”

In the episode, which premiered on October 11, Williams reveals that when he first recorded the now iconic vocals for both tracks, he expected them to be re-recorded by someone else. Williams also discusses the diligent production process that Daft Punk employed throughout their creation.

As part of Daft Punk’s continued tenth-anniversary celebration for Random Access Memories, the Williams interview is one of eight total episodes in the Memory Tapes series. The final two episodes will be released in the coming months.

Previous episodes featured artists like The StrokesJulian Casablancas, pianist Chilly Gonzales, and UK garage icon Todd Edwards, who discussed his work on Daft Punk’s 2001 album Discovery, in addition to Random Access Memories.

Daft Punk also marked the album’s tenth birthday with a special edition reissue earlier this year, which includes 35 minutes of unreleased music and studio outtakes. The pair will also release a “drumless edition” of the album on November 17.
