Last Thursday, the night sky of North London was lit up with the familiar face of Fatboy Slim as a hologram of the dance music legend performed high above the city’s famous Alexandra Palace.
While the real Fatboy Slim—aka Norman Cook—was performing inside the iconic venue (colloquially known as Ally Pally), the massive hologram above rose to a height of over 160 feet, suspended from two cranes.
The cutting-edge performance was sponsored by UK cellular network EE, who also live-streamed the performance on their Instagram page. It was Fatboy Slim’s first at Alexandra Palace since a sold-out show in June.
Prior to the show, Fatboy Slim invited fans to submit their own homemade dance routines for his hit 1998 track “Praise You.” A lucky few fans were then featured in the sky as virtual backup dancers, when the platinum-selling selector played the tune in his set, which also included favorites like “Right Here, Right Now” and “The Rockafeller Skank.”
“Last night was a wild ride! We took over London’s skyline and made history,” Fatboy Slim said in a statement upon the show’s conclusion. “A massive shout out to all those fans who joined me on the world’s biggest holographic stage to kickstart a brand-new era for EE.”
The landmark accomplishment comes in celebration of the 25th anniversary of his former UK number-one album You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby. Fatboy Slim released a special anniversary edition of the album earlier this month.
