Legendary UK grime rapper-turned-DJ, Skepta, has just announced his very own festival.
Big Smoke Festival will launch as a one-day event at South London’s Crystal Palace Park on July 6, 2024
Sharing the news via Instagram, Skepta said, “I know a lot of people have been wondering when they’ll see Skepta at a festival and I really wanted to save all that energy and put it into something that was for us, by us.”
Operated by former Glastonbury organizers Festival Republic, Big Smoke will feature two stages, both curated by Skepta, with one dedicated to his new house music label, Más Tiempo. The stage will also host a back-to-back DJ set from Skepta and his label co-founder, Jammer.
“There’ll be a live stage on one side and the Más Tiempo stage which will also be a full lineup,” Skepta continued. “Everybody that’s already got a ticket to DRUMSHEDS knows how we stay on the house side. I might bust up one stage, fly over to the other one and link with Jammer. It’s gonna be crazy.”
Skepta’s performance on the live stage will afford attendees the only opportunity to see him rap in the UK next year, and even more names will be added to the lineup soon.
The Mercury Prize-winning artist has been hard at work on a slew of releases in 2023, including his collaborative debut dance music EP with Jammer, a house edit of Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry On Their Own,” and his newest rap EP, 48 Hours, which just arrived last week.
Tickets for Skepta’s Big Smoke Festival 2024 will go on sale here, this Friday, December 1 at 10AM GMT.
