Wax Motif has co-produced a track on Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s forthcoming album.
The bass house producer and DJ shared the news of his work on the track “BACK TO ME” on Instagram yesterday, writing, “As a Chinese kid growing up in Australia, I don’t think younger me could’ve ever imagined this.”
His statement has been met with an outpour of support from fellow dance music artists worldwide, including Dombresky, Tchami, Kayzo, and more. The track and new album Vultures are rumored to be released this Friday after a listening party for the album was held in Miami on Monday.
Vultures will be the first studio album from Kanye West since the rapper made numerous antisemitic comments in 2022. Despite West’s ongoing controversy, Wax Motif’s work on the album from two of the world’s most high-profile artists is a major achievement and marks the continued presence of dance music producers in both hip-hop and popular music.
Beyoncé notably took home two Grammy awards in the dance and electronic categories last year for her 2022 album RENAISSANCE, which featured production credits from house music icons Honey Dijon and Green Velvet.
Earlier this year, Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo received songwriting and production credits on the track “MODERN JAM” from Travis Scott’s album UTOPIA.
Wax Motif’s huge 2023 included performances at all three North American EDC–EDC Mexico, EDC Las Vegas, and EDC Orlando–Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and even Lost Lands, as well as a slew of collaborative singles, like “Lo Que Soy” with Kura, “Otherside” with Malaa and “Better Recognize” with ZHU.
Wax Motif will perform tomorrow at Holy Ship! Wrecked before ending his year at Decadence Arizona.
