End Overdose, the nonprofit harm reduction and overdose prevention organization well-known for its presence in the EDM community, is getting everyone on board with its mission to offer free naloxone and drug test strips to the public.
In an announcement shared on Instagram today, End Overdose recruited popular internet personality Sean Barrett to ensure ravers everywhere know exactly how to obtain these life-saving resources.
End Overdose will send either Narcan or Kloxxado–each a brand name naloxone nasal spray–and test strips to customers across the country, provided that they cover shipping costs.
Customers will also be required to take a short online training course and create an End Overdose account, allowing them to review material, access their certificate and gain access to future training materials.
Naloxone, which can revive a person from an opioid overdose in minutes, has been an essential tool in combating the opioid epidemic plaguing the United States over the last number of years. According to the CDC, more than 75% of drug overdose deaths in 2021 involved an opioid, a frightening statistic largely attributed to illegally manufactured fentanyl.
End Overdose’s continued work in this space follows the FDA’s approval of naloxone for over-the-counter use in March 2023. While the approval was an important step in fighting overdose deaths, harm reduction advocates have remained critical of the drug’s high over-the-counter price point, a reported $44.99 per two-dose carton as of August 2023.
End Overdose has already displayed its remarkable harm-reduction efforts in the rave space through partnerships with Insomniac Events and ILLENIUM, who hosted an educational Instagram Live event with the organization in April 2023.
Looking to the year ahead, End Overdose is rolling out an all-new “version 2.0” of their online training this month, complete with events, raffles, a reward system for users and an important web-based grieving space.
