Emerging Bass Artist VAMPA Shares Debut EP, ‘Bad Bodies’

Emerging bass producer VAMPA is switching things up with the release of her debut EP, Bad Bodies, out now.

Over the past few years, the Chicago-based artist—AKA Emily Mucha—has been making noise in the dubstep scene with releases on labels like KANNIBALEN and Deadbeats. Now, her new self-released EP stands as a foray into different bass-fueled sounds, blending mid-tempo and bass house for a captivating sonic journey.

Full of introspective themes and powerful storytelling, Bad Bodies begins with lead single “Dizzy,” an aggressive mid-tempo track powered by throbbing kick drums and brooding vocals.

A slight tempo shift on “Temptress” brings added energy with a uniquely staccato bassline before the title track, “Bad Bodies,” kicks things into overdrive, embracing the EPs dark and emotive themes with some cheeky bass house fun.

In a press release, VAMPA discussed the EP’s connection to her own personal experience. She shared that “vivid” and “deeply profound” dreams have long been a guiding light in her waking life, but since leaving her last toxic relationship, they have “taken a sinister turn.”

“It’s symbolic of what I experienced in this relationship; feeling like I had no voice, feeling weak and scared, and never standing up for myself,” she said. “Each time I slip back into this dream, though, I feel like I gain my power back. I no longer try to run away, I face this entity with no fear, and I wake up feeling confident and strong in my femininity… no one can take that away from me anymore. I’ve overcome my demons and I am a new woman because of it.”

Known for her dynamic stage presence and bewitching performances, VAMPA kicked off her 2024 Bad Bodies Tour earlier this month. Another 21 dates are planned for cities like Orlando, Minneapolis, Chicago and San Diego ahead of the artist’s upcoming festival appearances at Rampage Open Air, Tomorrowland Belgium and Dancefestopia.
