UK Runner Seeks Guinness World Record For “Fastest Marathon whilst DJing”

A Jersey, UK native has announced his plan to set a new Guinness World Record for the “Fastest Marathon whilst DJing.”

Gus Fraser intends to complete the London Marathon on April 12 while mixing—an effort he hopes will raise £100,000 (over $125,000 USD) for Cancer Research UK. Fraser aims to complete the challenge in memory of his father, who died of pancreatic cancer 10 years ago.

“I’m planning to set the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Marathon whilst DJing. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but I figured the more ridiculous the better,” Fraser shared in a video message on YouTube.

After working with Guinness World Records for six months, his goal is to complete the 26.2-mile run in under five hours. Additional requirements include a minimum number of breaks between tracks, filming the entire endeavor, playing only commercial music, playing on commercially available equipment and publishing his tracklist, according to the BBC.

“I am going to play a few crowd-pleasers,” Fraser told ITV.

Fraser said he’s up for the “tough” challenge and revealed that his DJ kit weighs 8kg in an interview with the BBC. On YouTube, he likened his Numark setup to that of viral British DJ SUAT and welcomed the artist to join him in the challenge.

Fraser’s “personal crusade against cancer” has seen him previously complete marathons, Ironmans, and cycling challenges. This time around he wanted to do something different to reach as wide an audience as possible because “a regular marathon wouldn’t be enough,” he told the Jersey Evening Post.

“If you’re going to have a big number to raise, you have to push the boat out and do something crazier to get attention,” he added in an interview with Jersey radio station IslandFM.
