New Avicii Documentary To Premiere At Tribeca Film Festival

A new documentary film about Avicii is set to premiere at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival this summer.

Avicii – I’m Tim will be screened at Tribeca in the festival’s Spotlight Documentary category, and features never-before-seen interviews with former Avicii collaborators Aloe Blacc and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, according to Billboard.

Additional interviews with legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers and Avicii’s former manager Ash Pournouri are also in the film, according to Tribeca’s website.

“Before there was Avicii, there was just Tim,” reads the film’s synopsis. “For the first time through his own words, witness the journey of a shy but prodigious musical talent who would soon become one of the defining artists of his generation.”

Expectedly, the 125-minute film will feature original music from Avicii—aka Tim Bergling—the genre-defining EDM artist who tragically died by suicide in 2018 at the age of just 28.

Avicii – I’m Tim was directed by Swedish filmmaker and music journalist Henrik Burman, who is also known for his previous work on music documentaries about Doug Seegers, The Salazar Brothers, and Yung Lean.

Other music films at Tribeca 2024 include an exploration of techno pioneer Carl Craig’s career and spotlights on Harry Belafonte, “Little” Steven Van Zandt, and Ani DiFranco, among others.

As the music world continues to mourn the loss of one of EDM’s brightest stars, several other Avicii tribute works have emerged in the last year.

In September 2023, Avicii’s back catalog rightsholder Pophouse Entertainment released a limited edition vinyl repressing of the Swedish artist’s debut album, True, and its remix counterpart. This release was accompanied by unseen footage from his 2013 “True Tour.”

Earlier this month, Stockholm’s Avicii Experience screened a concert film of Avicii’s final show in Sweden in 2016. Another full-length Avicii documentary from Academy Award-winning director Lawrence Bender is also in production.

Tribeca Film Festival will take place in New York City this July 5-16, 2024. For more information, visit tribecafilm.com.
