Swedish House Mafia have issued a statement addressing the delay of their highly anticipated single, “Lioness.”
In an announcement posted to their social media channels yesterday, the trio of producers—Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso—explained that after playing out the track at their recent surprise performance in New York City, they realized last-minute changes were needed before its release.
“Lioness,” which has garnered early acclaim after its premiere during Angello’s Coachella performance earlier this month, was scheduled to be released last Friday.
“As many noticed Lioness is not out yet,” reads Swedish House Mafia’s joint statement. “Thank you for your patience and it’s with you soon, but after playing it live we weren’t satisfied with the production and needed to do last minute changes. New York you heard the final version now we are ready! We Love You.”
The new single is slated to appear on Swedish House Mafia’s forthcoming second studio album, which has also been delayed—a common theme for the group since their reunion.
At Tomorrowland last July, Angello announced that the group’s follow-up to Paradise Again would arrive before the end of summer 2023. More than eight months on from his announcement and the release of the album’s second single, “Ray of Solar,” it still has no confirmed release date.
Additionally, Paradise Again was pushed back from its originally scheduled release date in November 2021 to April 2022.
Despite the delays, recent live performances from the group and its members have featured several unreleased tracks rumored to be on the upcoming album, including “Omen”—during Angello’s Coachella set—and “Finally” with Alicia Keys, among others.
This summer, Swedish House Mafia will return to Ushuaïa Ibiza for their first residency in over a decade. Six dates are planned from July 21 to August 25, 2024.
