Miami’s Club Space will temporarily close for renovations this summer.
The nightlife institution’s famous marathon parties will be on hold after Sunday, June 2, to make various infrastructure adjustments that will keep the building up to Miami fire-safety code after the construction of the E11EVEN Hotel and Residences next door. Programming will also cease at its first and sub-floor venues, The Ground and Floyd.
The surrounding high-rise condos comprise two 65-story towers and flank Club Space on its east and west sides. Development plans to connect the two towers with an elevated walkway wrapping behind the club will warrant its three south-facing emergency exits futile.
“In order to solidify our club’s future, we are making proactive improvements in our building to remain a part of the 11th Street neighborhood development,” reads a Club Space statement posted to Instagram yesterday. “All other construction inside the club will focus on maintaining the vibe and leveling up our dance floor experience.”
Club Space co-owners Coloma Kaboomsky, David Sinopoli and Davide Danese told Resident Advisor the closure will facilitate the demolition of a staircase connecting the club’s famous upstairs Terrace and ground-floor emergency exits. A new stairwell will be erected on its north side, connecting emergency exits to both levels with an additional passageway.
No reopening date has been set at this time. However, RA reports that renovations are expected to be complete by fall 2024. In the meantime, several Club Space events will be held at its open-air sister venue, Factory Town.
Before the hiatus begins, Club Space will host two more weekends of “closing party marathons” from Thursday, May 23 to Sunday, May 26, and from Thursday, May 30 to Sunday, June 2. DJs slated to perform include Ms. Mada, Sister System, True Vine, Floorplan, Honey Dijon and Solomun, according to RA.
Club Space also plans to share weekly SoundCloud and YouTube mixes highlighting monumental sets throughout its 24-year history. Club Space will celebrate its 25th anniversary in March 2025.
