Travis Scott Settles Final Astroworld Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Travis Scott has settled the final wrongful death lawsuit filed against him following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, a fatal crowd crush that killed 10 people and injured hundreds more during the rapper’s headline performance in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the family of the youngest concertgoer killed at Astroworld—nine-year-old Ezra Blount—has settled with Scott, Apple, Live Nation and other companies involved in the production of the event, according to the family’s lawyer, S. Scott West.

The last of several wrongful death lawsuits to be settled follows nine other cases reportedly settled earlier this month. Jury selection for the Blount family case was scheduled to begin in September.

“The family is happy to resolve its claim against all defendants following the death of their son, Ezra,” West said in a statement shared with The Houston Chronicle. “They look forward to continuing the process of healing and never forgetting.”

According to court testimony, Ezra Blount was seated on his father’s shoulders before being trampled when the crowd surged toward Scott on stage. Blount was later placed in a medically induced coma and died in the hospital three days after the incident.

Immediately following the tragedy, Scott shared that he was “absolutely devastated by what took place.” He later revisited the incident in a November 2023 interview with GQ, saying he would “always think about it.”

Close to 2,400 injury cases filed against Scott and Live Nation are still pending, according to the AP. In February 2022, hundreds more Astroworld suits were combined into one case, according to Billboard.

In June 2023, a Texas grand jury declined to indict Scott as part of a criminal investigation into the catastrophe. Hearings as part of an additional active civil litigation against the rapper are scheduled to take place this October.
