NGHTMRE Shares Collaboration-Laden ‘UNSOUND 2’ EP

NGHTMRE has unleashed UNSOUND 2, the next iteration in his collaboration-laden UNSOUND EP series, out now via his own Gud Vibrations imprint.

An expansion of the collaborative concept NGHTMRE debuted on his first UNSOUND EP in 2022, UNSOUND 2 sees the dubstep and trap tastemaker link up with even more juggernauts to build a diverse package of bass tunes, choc-full of banging beats and riveting sound design.

“I reached out to some of my favorite producers from all over the world for this EP,” NGHTMRE said of UNSOUND 2 in a press release. “I really tried not to think too much on a specific genre or boundary for this, and just focused on writing what felt cool and inspiring.”

The six-track EP’s forward-thinking approach is perhaps best exemplified on “Torture,” a collaboration with Dutch bass prodigy Franky Nuts and goth-inspired vocalist DeathbyRomy that blends lush piano chord progressions and atmospheric synth textures before dropping into an all-out assault of jagged bass rhythms.

On “All Night,” NGHTMRE’s anticipated collaboration with Rezz and the EP’s opening track, “Torture” receives a well-crafted rework, underscoring DeathbyRomy’s haunting vocals with Rezz’s harrowing midtempo groove.

The rest of UNSOUND 2 is filled with equally bold productions, ranging from rattling staccato percussion on “In Your Eyes” with experimental bass flagbearer Jon Casey and producer-vocalist Pauline Herr, to breakbeats, trap rhythms, and a smooth hip-hop flow on “Thrilla” with rising trap producer Juelz and British rapper ShaSimone.

Rounding out the EP are “Restless,” a euphoric track with dubstep genre-bender Liquid Stranger and ethereal vocals from Mougleta, and “Brand New Love,” a boundary-pushing collaboration with melodic riddim trailblazer Ace Aura and vocalist Marlhy that brings together laser-infused bass sonics and uniquely plucky melodies.
