Pikes Becomes First Ibiza Venue To Ban Dancefloor Phone Use Entirely

Pikes Ibiza has become the island’s first dancefloor to ban phone use entirely.

The world-famous luxury hotel and nightlife hotspot has extended its Monday night no-phone policy to all seven days of the week. While guests can still use their phones, they will now be required to place a sticker over their device’s camera as soon as they enter the property, with staff instructed to enforce the rule throughout.

“Keeping your phone in your pocket and your mind on the music—and knowing that everyone around you is doing the same—opens up a whole world of freedom, not only on the dancefloor but all around Pikes, and so, we’ve decided to introduce the policy seven nights a week,” the venue wrote on Instagram.

“We want you to dance like no one’s watching,” the post continued. “We want the very special guests in our booth and our resident DJs alike to feel as comfortable as if they were at a friend’s house party, with the freedom to dance, sing, jump, squeal, shout, and celebrate however they like. We want you to find your new best friends, make memories that live in your mind, not on your phone, and experience the magic of Pikes the way it was always intended to be. After all, what happens at Pikes stays at Pikes…”

According to the venue, the original Monday night phone ban “caused quite a stir on the island” when Pikes became the first club to introduce such a policy in April, but it says “it was the start of a positive shift in the way people experience parties in Ibiza.”

Indeed, many Ibiza nightclubs have followed suit with their own dance floor phone bans, including Hï Ibiza. The superclub has now instituted no-phone policies on select nights during its residency events from Damian Lazarus, James Hype and MEDUZA’s “Our House,” and most notably, Afterlife, whose stunning visual production regularly attracts cell phone recording.

Elsewhere in the world, clubs like New York City’s Nowadays and London’s fabric, and large-scale touring events like Cercle’s Odyssey experience are adopting similar policies.
