Marshmello and Viperactive have released their new collaborative single, “In The Cut.”
The uptempo bass track lands on Marshmello’s own Joytime Collective today, marking the relaunch of the imprint that has famously provided a home for the masked chart-topper’s biggest hits, such as “Happier” with Bastille and “Silence” with Khalid.
Returning to his roots in trap and bass music after a decade of cross-genre exploration, Marshmello has linked up with rapidly rising producer Viperactive to help bring his classic Mello sound into the future. Complete with high-energy synths and dynamically off-kilter rhythms, “In The Cut” sees the two artists merge their sonic sensibilities in a trap banger perfect for the now.
“‘In The Cut’ came together when a few months back, Mello sent me a record he had started and was wondering if I would want to work on it,” Viperactive said in a press release. “The original idea was fire, and made for great DNA that led to what the song is now. The whole process was really organic and easy, and it was great getting to make something that really feels true to both of us.”
After collaborating with trap legends like Flosstradamus and 4B and earning live support from the likes of Skrillex, Four Tet, Steve Aoki, and more, Viperactive is now set to lead Joytime Collective’s resurgence alongside Marshmello, wherein he’s already brought his vigorous basslines, hard-hitting drums, and catchy hooks to Marshmello’s 2024 Joytime Collective tour, in addition to being lined up for further releases.
“In The Cut” follows Marshmello’s June-released singles, “Forever” with pluko and “Don’t Speak” with Sabrina Claudio, as the Grammy-nominated artist dives back into the sound that has captivated millions across his debut album, Joytime, and its ensuing second and third volumes.
