NERO Cement Comeback With Awaited Third Studio Album, ‘Into The Unknown’

NERO have released their long-awaited third studio album, Into The Unknown, cementing their full-scale comeback.

The album lands on 2808 Recordings in partnership with Create Music Group today, marking the Grammy-winning live electronic trio’s first full-length LP in nine years, following 2015’s Between II Worlds, which featured tracks like “The Thrill” and “Two Minds.”

Into The Unknown spans 13 tracks, including previously released singles “Solar,” “Too Many Questions,” “Draw Energy,” “Blame You,” and “Truth,” which last October ended a five-year run without original music from the group, comprising producers Dan Stephens and Joseph Ray and vocalist Alana Watson.

New titles include “Nowhere to Hide,” “Running From Reality,” Talking to God,” and a new version of their 2022 RL Grime collaboration, “Renegade,” among others, encapsulating a variety of dance music sounds from early 1990s UKG, jungle, and drum & bass to the 2010s-era dance-pop that launched NERO from nightclubs to the world’s biggest festival stages.

Serving as the final chapter in the group’s album trilogy, which began with 2011’s Welcome Reality (home to mega-hits like “Promises” and “Doomsday”), the new album is said to be “a reflection of the stories NERO foretold with their first two albums: the disconnectivity of a worldwide epidemic, the rise of technology, and the need for society’s rebirth for the progression of humankind,” according to a press release.

Into The Unknown, to us, feels somewhat like a bridge between Welcome Reality and Between II Worlds, NERO said in a joint statement. “A blend of UK dance music and French electro/house. This is where we’ve always felt that we reside, stylistically. We wanted to make sure the album sounded quintessentially NERO and hopefully our fans will feel we succeeded in that.”

In support of the album, NERO will embark on their 16-date “Into The Unknown” tour later this month, making stops in Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more. Find a full list of tour dates here.
