Viral DJ Fish56Octagon Launches His Own Record Label, Octagon Discs

Viral social media DJ Fish56Octagon has launched his own record label, Octagon Discs.

The new label, launched in partnership with Another Rhythm Records, will see the 44-year-old British marketing professional and dance music lover, who found online stardom this year by sharing his favorite old-school vinyl records, new tracks, and decades of rave wisdom in quirky homemade videos on TikTok and Instagram, launch his next chapter as a rising DJ and tastemaker.

“Octagon Discs will serve as a platform for both emerging and established dance music artists, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of electronic music,” according to the label. Its debut release, London-based producer Declan Knapp’s new rework of Groove Armada’s 2001 hit “Superstylin’,” will arrive on October 4.

Fish56Octagon—who prefers to be called Fish in lieu of sharing his real name—discovered the track while sifting through the hundreds of demos he receives daily from aspiring producers with the hope that he’ll share them with his social media audience of over 600,000 followers on Instagram and over 400,000 followers on TikTok.

“Something about Declan’s email and the track stood out immediately,” Fish said in a statement. “It’s since become a festival favorite this summer, from Glastonbury to Ibiza.”

The dressing gown-wearing, dry Weetabix-eating, and goofy dancing music nut, referred to by fans as the “human Shazam,” began his social media journey only nine months ago, first sharing content for car enthusiasts. A switch to sharing his deep love for underground rave culture in videos recorded from his home turntables has allowed him to quit his day job and pursue his dream as a DJ.

He’s now played over 60 shows across Europe, including three performances at Glastonbury and gigs at Boomtown, Reading Festival, and Creamfields—where he had his stag-do (bachelor party) in 2010—among others. He’s also announced a fall tour of the U.S. and Australia, and has earned praise from his hero Carl Cox, in addition to other legends like Bicep, Disclosure, Roni Size and Skrillex.

“Fish has an incredible gift for curating, communicating and sharing music with his totally unique and infectious passion,” Another Rhythm Records co-founder Billy Webber said in a statement. “We’re ecstatic to launch Octagon Discs, which will give artists a platform to reach a fast-growing community within electronic music and beyond.”
