Malaa To Face Off With Alter Ego On Dueling Singles, “Save Me” And “Simiya”

Malaa

Malaa and his alter ego are ready to rumble.

The bass house maverick announced the forthcoming release of two dueling singles yesterday as he continues to roll out his new alias, “Malaa’s Alter Ego,” an enigmatic side project that pits the masked Frenchman against himself in a battle of warring musical styles.

Round one of the heavyweight bout will begin this Friday, October 11, with Malaa’s “Save Me” and his alter ego’s “Simiya” marking the first showdown between the two identities, as the artist urges fans to “choose your side” between his signature bass and tech house style and the harder, more aggressive sounds of his alter ego.

The new alias was launched last month with a dramatic teaser video in which the alter ego, a mysterious figure identical to Malaa, ski mask and all, emerges from the shadows to terminate the producer—just before he can announce the release of his anticipated second solo album.

Since the video’s release, the alter ego has been hijacking Malaa’s social media channels to drop all sorts of cryptic content, including anti-Malaa propaganda videos, a live mix showing off his bold new style, and even a website dedicated to his takeover, malaaismissing.com.

The battle is set to rage on through November, when the dueling aliases will duke it out on a forthcoming double album from Malaa, with one side dedicated to the artist’s flagship project and the other showcasing new tunes from “Malaa’s Alter Ego.”

“Save Me” and “Simiya” will both feature on the LP, which follows Malaa’s March-released collaborative album with Tchami, Veni Vidi Vici, and “N9,” another collaboration from the pair of French stalwarts and MAKJ. The album’s release date is yet to be announced.

In addition to the studio, the rivalry will play out on stage on Malaa’s upcoming tour, which is set to feature two performances, one from each alias, on each date. Full tour routing will be announced in the coming months.
