Amsterdam’s Famous Gashouder To Temporarily Close For Renovations In 2025

Gashouder

Amsterdam’s famous Gashouder will temporarily close for renovations in 2025.

Awakenings, the venue’s longtime partner and the Netherlands’ leading techno promoter, announced on social media yesterday that it will bid “a (temporary) farewell” to its home at the Gashouder after the end of its three-show New Year’s run next month.

The renovations, approved by the municipality of Amsterdam on August 10, will see a basement built under the reclaimed coal gasification plant to streamline the production of its events, according to its Westergas developers.

In its current form, the venue utilizes external tents set up outside on the Klönneplein to accommodate its run-of-show needs, from visitor entrance areas to dressing rooms, storing production equipment, and more.

“Not only does this take up public space and cause disorder, but it also creates a lot of traffic in the park,” reads a Westergas blog post. “Additionally, it is a costly and inefficient way for Westergas and its partners to organize events.”

According to developers, the Gashouder’s new basement will soon make these temporary tent structures “a thing of the past,” with the underground floor set to permanently house all of the tented facilities.

In addition to the basement construction, the Gashouder will undergo “significant sound insulation.” The renovations will not impact its show capacity.

Construction work is scheduled to begin in early 2025 and will last approximately nine months, according to Westergas. Check out a rundown of the upcoming construction in the video below.

Awakenings’ final run of Gashouder shows at the turn of the year will include performances from Joris Voorn, Joyhauser, Len Faki, Pan-Pot, Ben Klock, Nina Kraviz, Anetha, FJAAK, Richie Hawtin and many more. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit awakenings.com.
