A new open-air party series is coming to London’s Old Royal Naval College this summer, with South African superstar DJ Black Coffee set to headline its inaugural event at the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“Labyrinth on the Thames” will take over the Greenwich landmark—throughout its history, an 18th-century hospital and a training site for the Royal Navy before it was retired and designated as such—across the first two weekends in August.
Helmed by Labyrinth Events, a London-based promoter known for bringing premier electronic music talent to unconventional venues, from tube stations to Bedfordshire’s lush Tofte Manor, the event will mark the first electronic music show at the Old Royal Naval College, with performances to start in the afternoon and end at 11PM, according to organizers.
Grammy-winning Amapiano icon Black Coffee will make history as the scenic venue’s first headlining DJ when the series kicks off on August 1. The show will mark his only appearance in London this summer and he’ll curate his own support lineup, according to a Labyrinth social media post.
“As someone of South African heritage myself, it brings me great joy to announce Black Coffee as the first show at this breathtaking location,” Labyrinth founder Nick Castleman said in a statement. “Black Coffee’s story and achievements are forever inspiring, and we couldn’t dream up a more fitting act to launch the venue with.”
Though lineups for the rest of the series are unannounced at the time of writing, Labyrinth shared in a press release that stage production will be handled by High Scream, the London-based design studio behind Black Coffee’s otherworldly Hï Ibiza residency and other projects for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Coachella and more.
