London’s fabric Nightclub Unveils First-Ever Upgrades To Room 1 Dance Floor

London’s famous fabric nightclub has upgraded its Room 1 dance floor for the first time in its 25-year history.

The clubbing institution today announced the completion of renovations that will allow for the room’s vibrating dance floor, a world-first technology when fabric opened in 1999, to operate at a fraction of its original power, according to a report from Resident Advisor.

The changes replaced the room’s outdated batch of roughly 450-hockey-puck sized transducers, responsible for converting sound from the DJ booth into heavy vibrations that can be felt beneath the floor, with next-gen “Moving Magnet” linear transducers from high-end amplifier manufacturer and installer Powersoft.

Fabric wrote on Instagram that the enhancements take “sound and vibration to a whole new level,” and will improve accessibility for individuals with hearing impairments.

The dance floor upgrade is the final stage in the club’s Room 1 sound system renovation project. Announced in August 2024, the project also included the addition of more subwoofers and a complete overhaul of fabric’s current Martin Audio W8C system.

“The new system delivers a lot more power, and with the power availability of the new amps, we’re never going to get near peaking,” fabric tech manager Matt Smith told Resident Advisor when the renovations were announced. “It’s very clean, tight and punchy, but it’s not about volume for us, we want to keep it sounding good rather than loud.”

After fabric piloted the system during a special event with Call Super and Craig Richards earlier this month, the club’s new dance floor is now fully operational for upcoming shows with Marsh, Bradley Zero, and Seth Troxler.
