This recent news will be music to everyones ears. Spotify has announced a new feature today that will allow independent artists to upload their own music without any fees, a record label or even third-party. Spotify’s new initiative resembles closely to one of their competitors, Soundcloud.

This new feature is being tested now in beta-only mode but they will be making it more available to artists, labels, and teams in the near future. Spotify getting deals with independent artists is starting to worry bigger labels as Spotify has relied upon them for streaming.

Artists will be able to upload their music via the Spotify For Artists platform which at the end of June counted over 200,000 users. As this is great news, Spotify is also reportedly being sued for gender discrimination, defamation, and equal pay violations.

This seems like a great opportunity to give every artist a voice and as Spotify is a leading platform in the music world, this will hopefully prove to be a step in the right direction.
