Cosmic Gate Announce Split After 27 Years, Nic Chagall To Continue Project Solo

After 27 years as a duo, Cosmic Gate has announced that its founding members are parting ways.

The renowned German trance duo of Claus Terhoeven, aka Nic Chagall, and Bossi, aka Stefan Bossems, shared on social media yesterday that Bossi will step away from the project due to the demands of touring, with Nic set to continue Cosmic Gate as a solo artist.

“This decision comes with deep respect, gratitude, and friendship,” the pair wrote in a joint statement. “What we built together, side by side, and had the privilege to share with all of you around the world is something truly rare and beautiful, something we are most proud of.”

“In the same time, this marks the beginning of a new era,” the statement continued. “Nic will continue forward solo, carrying Cosmic Gate into its next phase. New music is already in motion, ready to unfold and shape what comes next.”

Known as one of trance music’s most enduring commercial and cultural innovators, Cosmic Gate formed in 1999. Spanning more than a quarter-century, the pair’s catalog is home to scene-defining hits such as “Exploration of Space,” “Fire Wire,” “Be Your Sound,” and their famous remix of Tiësto’s “Urban Train.” In 2018, Nic Chagall earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Remixed Recording category for his Cosmic Gate remix of Gabriel & Dresden’s “Only Road.”

The project’s next chapter with Nic at the helm begins this weekend with upcoming shows at Manchester’s Joshua Brooks and A State of Trance Rotterdam.
