Apple Music has announced the opening of a new music venue in London.
Located beneath the UK headquarters of the tech giant’s music platform at Battersea Power Station on the River Thames, the 600-capacity Apple Music Hall will host one-off shows by major artists and bands to be filmed and broadcast live online, Apple announced yesterday.
Set to open in the coming weeks, the space features a 48-speaker spatial sound system and a 38-foot stage that can be reconfigured for traditional front-facing concerts as well as in-the-round experiences. It’s also equipped to record performances in Spatial Audio and capture multi-camera video with 16 cameras, bringing fans closer to live music experiences on-site or at home.
The design draws on the former coal-fired power station’s heritage brickwork and architectural details, including fluted arches and bronze balconies reminiscent of the building’s historic oriel windows, offering a panoramic view of the concourse and the river beyond, according to a press release.
Behind the stage, a full production facility features two professional recording and mix studios that capture each performance as a multitrack recording that can be mixed in Spatial Audio live or after the concert. The concept is designed to connect fans with intimate live sessions from their favorite artists, who can leave the venue with a finished Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix, and multi-camera video after just one show.
All of Apple Music Radio’s London-based hosts and shows will also broadcast out of the complex’s new radio studios.
