6-Year-Old Illumi Maeda Becomes World’s Youngest Club DJ

Illumi Maeda World's Youngest Club DJ

Japanese DJ Illumi Maeda is officially the world’s youngest female club DJ.

Performing as DJ ILLU, Maeda earned the Guinness World Records title at six years and 99 days old after spinning for more than an hour at a Yokohama nightclub in March.

The record-breaking performance came with a few challenges, including equipment issues that left the young DJ feeling nervous, according to an article published by Guinness World Records, but she successfully completed her set in front of a live audience.

Maeda’s musical journey began at three years old, when her mother’s friends introduced her to DJing. Raised in a household where music is always present, she also credits late electronic music icon Avicii as an early inspiration, and recalled how his music lifted her spirits and showed her the emotional power of dance music.

Already looking ahead, Maeda hopes to perform at festivals worldwide, pursue additional Guinness World Records titles, and eventually open an ice cream shop where she can DJ.

And while she still spends her weekdays attending school and doing homework, the six-year-old has already developed a particular enthusiasm for the dancefloor.

“If there’s a party, I want to be there—wherever it is!” she told Guinness World Records.
