Ableton Launches New Creativity-Focused Podcast, ‘Doing Music’

Ableton has launched Doing Music, a new podcast series for music makers, producers, and artists that dives into the creativity behind electronic music production.

Shirking a well-trodden ‘how-to’ format that has become increasingly popular in music podcasting, the music production software giant’s first foray into podcasting goes beyond plug-ins and sample packs to get to the nut of it all: how artists generate their musical ideas.

In each biweekly episode, award-winning author, broadcaster and radio producer Craig Schuftan speaks with a new artist about the hands-on approaches, techniques and strategies they use to spark ideas in their work, according to a press release, to “challenge the myth that creativity is something that some people have and others don’t.”

Among other tips, artists will share insights on how they stay active in their respective creative fields, helping listeners build a toolkit of their own new creative strategies over the course of the series.

Ableton’s first three Doing Music guests include bedroom pop sensation Cavetown, Peruvian-born, Berlin-based house artist Sofia Kourtesis, and Gavsborg, founder of the renowned Jamaican music collective Equinknoxx.

Check out a clip from Kourtesis’ Doing Music interview below, in which she discusses the importance of imperfection in her sound through field recording, selecting samples, and embracing her Latin American heritage in her music.

The first three episodes of Ableton’s Doing Music podcast are now available for listening on Spotify and all other podcast platforms.
