K-Pop and EDM are set to collide at Academy LA this week, thanks to the Hollywood nightclub’s all-new event series, Electrik Seoul.
Launching this Thursday, May 2, Academy LA’s new flagship event promises to mash up these two commercially and culturally in-demand genres, complete with K-pop hits, top EDM DJs, kandi, lightsticks, spiked boba and soju beverages, and even a karaoke room.
Located just a few miles from K-Town and Little Tokyo, the Insomniac-owned club hopes to merge its event expertise—evidenced by a No. 24 ranking in DJ Mag‘s 2024 Top 100 Clubs poll—with the “culturally rich experiences” of area K-Pop fans.
“Seeing the surge of popularity of K-Pop in the US, we wanted to do something different and bring the dance music rave experience that we’re known for to this emerging market,” event producer Nino Lee said in a press release. “Born and raised in Korea myself, I’m excited about this new brand and the possibilities it holds for the Asian communities.”
Electrik Seoul’s official boba sponsor, Sunright Tea Studio, will be crafting specialty teas for the event, which will also offer Soju bottle service for the first time in venue history. Local K-pop merch store Choice Music, another official Electrik Seoul sponsor, will also be on hand to run special giveaways.
Other recent events at Academy LA have also paired rave experiences with unique cultural touchpoints.
Already well known as the birthplace of Insomniac’s Day Trip house music party series, the venue hosted its first bass music-led breathwork workshop earlier this month. This summer, Academy LA is also hosting monthly events from Bingo Loco, a traveling party that adds rave-style production to the once-leisurely game.
