Over the past few years, the voice of Anabel Englund has become synonymous with house and techno. If a producer wants to add some ethereal soul to record, she is the one to call, and the latest artist to make the call is none other than Oliver Heldens. Together the duo has shared their new single, “Deja Vu.”
Given that Heldens produced this track under his own name rather than his HI-LO alias, the bassline populates much of the backing music, but the real star of the track is surely Englund. She is far beyond the type of vocalist who shows up during a breakdown to sing a four-bar hook over and over.
Whether she is singing the wistful lyrics of desire or providing harmonious vocalizations that are sweet like ear-candy, Englund’s voice is one that brings the human quality to this new record.
