Famed DJ, writer and former BBC Radio 1 host Annie Mac is returning to the BBC with a brand new podcast: Sidetracked.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Annie Mac, real name Annie MacManus outlined the focus of the podcast, writing, “Anything that is interesting, funny, odd, remarkable, or terrible in the world of music will be discussed on a weekly basis.”
Quoting a quip from her co-host, she added, “It will be like Newsnight with a donk on it.”
MacManus hosted a number of programs during her 17-year tenure at BBC Radio 1, including Future Sounds and Annie Mac’s Dance Party, where she delivered the best in new dance music to a massive nationwide audience.
MacManus will now co-host the BBC flagship podcast alongside current BBC Radio 1 host, Nick Grimshaw. Grimshaw has become well-known for BBC Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast Show, which he has hosted at various time slots since 2008.
The pair have worked together before as well, hosting a teen-focused BBC lunchtime show titled Switch in 2007.
MacManus shared that she is happy to be working with a co-host whom she loves dearly, as well as a “world class production team.”
New Sidetracked episodes will arrive every Thursday and a teaser episode is now available on BBC Sounds, or “anywhere else you get your podcasts.”
